Celebrates with Tasty, Convenient Deli Slices & New Fresh Line

The largest producer of organic pork in the nation, Organic Prairie, the meat brand of the 900-farmer strong Organic Valley/CROPP Cooperative, is set to enjoy a full year of educational activity designed to help citizens be better informed about their full line of fresh, frozen, and ready-to-eat meats from beef, pork, chicken, and turkey.

"The year of the pig honors pureness of heart and honesty, and with that spirit our goal is to spread the word about the differences between organic, natural, grass fed and conventionally raised meat," said Tedd Heilmann, the lifelong supporter of animal welfare who now serves as General Manager of Organic Prairie. "The organic safety net provided by Organic Prairie is unsurpassed."

As part of its mission to educate about organic, Organic Prairie, a pioneer of organic meat in the US, compares organic, natural, and conventional production systems for meats and presents results in an easy to understand comparison chart posted on its website and distributed nationwide at its educational events.

The Organic Prairie Meat Production Comparison Chart makes it clear that only organic meat can make all of the following guarantees: all livestock feed is certified organic; all livestock feed does not contain GMOs; no antibiotics; no hormones used in beef production; no rendered animal by-products fed to cattle; no confinement, outdoor access to pasture; no pesticides, herbicides, fungicides or synthetic fertilizers; no irradiation; ecologically friendly and sustainable farming; and always third party certified to comply with strict USDA organic regulations.

Taste and Convenience Drive Deli and Fresh Line Success

Organic Prairie's new case-ready pork program launched in 2006 is being met with solid success. The line already includes boneless pork chops, boneless Country-style ribs, ground pork, pork tenderloin and pork roast.

Its delicious and growing line of Deli Slices—Organic Hardwood Smoked Ham, Roasted Turkey Breast and Roast Beef—now comes in easy to open re-sealable pouches for added convenience. They'll be sampled at the Winter Fancy Food Show, booth #369. See release for details.

Organic Prairie Family of Farms: Organic Pioneers

The farmers who supply Organic Prairie were among the nation's first to produce meat without the use of antibiotics, synthetic hormones or pesticides. They insisted on third-party organic meat certification long before federal organic standards were established and were the first in the industry to ban animal by-products from their cattle's diet. They played a vital role in shaping federal organic meat certification standards—the strictest in the industry.

This cooperative of organic family farmers began selling meat in 1996 under the Organic Valley brand and has recently repositioned its meat products under the Organic Prairie brand. Its mission is to provide families with the healthiest, most wholesome meat that is raised in accordance with organic principles and humane practices—respecting the dignity and interdependence of human, animal, plant, soil and global life.

Organic Prairie offers a full line of fresh organic beef, pork, chicken, and turkey items designed to serve the diverse needs of the growing organic consumer market. It also offers a full line of frozen organic meat items.

The Organic Prairie line includes organic hot dogs, beef steaks, roasts, ground beef, pork chops, pork roasts, bacon, ham, and assorted sausages, whole roasting chicken and boneless skinless breast, and whole large and small turkeys. Organic Prairie's products are available nationwide at leading supermarkets, natural food stores, cooperative groceries and restaurants. For more information, visit www.organicprairie.com.
