About Organic Prairie Family of Farms

Organic Prairie meats are produced by an independent cooperative of organic family farms. But you might say we're pioneers! We began producing our delicious meats—without the use of antibiotics, synthetic hormones, or pesticides—back in 1996. We insisted on third-party organic meat certification long before federal organic standards were established. We were the first in the industry to ban animal by-products from our cattle's diet. And we played a vital role in shaping federal organic meat certification standards—the strictest in the industry.

Mission

To provide families with the healthiest, most wholesome meat that is raised humanely in accordance with organic principles and practices—respecting the dignity and interdependence of human, animal, plant, soil and global life.

Sales

Organic Prairie meat sales are increasing by an average of more than 30 percent each year. Sales for 2007 were just under $10 million; 2008 sales are projected to be $13 million.

Product Line

Organic Prairie is proud to offer a full line of all 4 major organic proteins (beef, pork, chicken, and turkey), available both fresh and frozen.

In the fresh case, we offer a complete selection of organic sliced deli meats and pepperoni, hot dogs, and ground beef and pork. We also offer a fresh line of case-ready pork, including chops, tenderloin, and roasts. Additionally, we offer both pork and turkey bacon in the fresh case.

In the freezer case, we offer boxed steaks and chops, pork and turkey bacon, boneless ham, chicken breast, as well as whole chickens and turkeys. We also offer a complete selection of ground beef, pork, chicken, and turkey chubs, along with our pork and chicken sausages and beef patties.

We have also developed a line of organic beef jerky in 3 flavors, Spicy Hickory, Smoky Chipotle, and Prairie Classic.

All products are produced without the use of antibiotics, synthetic hormones or pesticides, and animals are fed only 100-percent certified organic feed and pasture. Animals are free to roam outdoors and are cared for humanely and with compassion.

Organic Meat Industry Overview

The organic meat sector has seen phenomenal growth in the last few years. It was only in 2002 that organic meat was allowed to be labeled as organic with the implementation of the National Organic Program.

In The Natural Foods Merchandiser's 24th Annual Market Overview, published in June 2005, it was reported that in 2004 sales of organic meat, poultry and seafood were up by 120%, compared to the healthy 14.6% for organic products in general.

Organic Prairie, with our lines of fresh organic burger, "Butcher's Case" fresh meat appearing in the meat cases of stores across the nation, and frozen line of beef, pork, and poultry, is currently the largest provider of a full line of organic meat in the nation.
